Which Rabbit Hole Next – Is there Light at the End?
For this Self-directed learning project, some of my instructional resources were very linear in nature, but my actual learning experience often required digression, and digression often lead me astray. I would encounter a problem area, something that was not behaving or looking like I wanted it to, and then I would discover another topic to delve into, and then down into a rabbit hole I would go. The internet is awash with meta references to its latent rabbit holes.
I was sidetracked by many topics, and although many of them were relevant, they had to be put aside for later consideration and exploration. I just did not have the time to move past the beginner level. I had to prioritize what I was going to focus on, or I would never have be able to complete this learning project. There are many topics related to creating a WordPress website, which I will have to delve into later, and these include (but certainly are not limited to):
- plugins
- what are buttons? (https://themeisle.com/blog/add-buttons-in-wordpress/)
- keyboard shortcuts
- Site Lock – https://www.sitelock.com/blog/beginners-guide-sitelock-
- Site security
- Making a backup and using test sites?
- how do I embed links to videos?
- how can I embed or display multi-page pdf files?
- how do I get text to display nicely on the page rather than all spread out
- copying and pasting from word documents
- learn some html code
- change the font on the site
- different headers on different pages
- how can I make multiple websites? do I still have to use WordPress?
- What are all of those things listed in the dashboard – what are they for? what do they do? what do I need to do with them? . . .
That is only the start of the list, and I am confident that once I start on it, I will find myself tumbling into many other areas of inquiry.
I gave my domain the name MY-TECHEDUCATION, and for now, this site will be my digital sandbox where I hope to explore online and digital technologies, various digital media, and their connections to education and educational technologies. I have no fixed plans for it, other than to follow where the rabbit holes take me. Maybe I’ll meet you down there?
